Khopra Ridge Community Trek

9 Days

Khopra Ridge Community Trek takes you to one of the newest and least visited trekking trails in the Annapurna Region. The Khopra Ridge Community Trek was introduced by Mahabir Pun, renowned educationist, wireless technology expert and a recipient of the Magsaysay award, to help the villagers living in this forgotten part of the Annapurnas. While walking past Gurung and Magar villages you will be staying at community run lodges. By staying at these lodges you will be helping not only one individual or family but the whole community.

Your trek culminates at Khopra Ridge from where you get glorious views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and other peaks. Apart from enjoying panoramic views of the Himalayas, you will get to experience the unique mountain culture of Magars and Gurungs.

Additional highlights of your trek include a side trip to the sacred Khayer Lake and sunrise view from Poon Hill.

Khopra Ridge Community Trek Route

Your Khopra Ridge Trek begins with scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the hub of Annapurna treks. From the lakeside city you drive further to Kimche from where you begin your trek. Follow a typical Nepalese up and down trail past Gurung and Magar settlements and terraced fields sculpted on the hillsides.

On the fifth day you reach Khopra Ridge or Danda in Nepali, with spellbinding views of Himalayan mountains. The following day, hike to Khayer Lake, a high altitude lake with spiritual cleansing properties according to the locals.

Annapurna South appears close from the lake. According to your Khopra Ridge Trek itinerary on your return leg, you stay overnight at Ghorepani and hike to Poon Hill the next morning for a magical Himalayan sunrise view.
