Pikey Peak Trek is by far the best short trek that takes you close to the Himalayan Mountains from Kathmandu. Within a week you get to trek through rural Nepal and experience mountain culture while enjoying panoramic views of Himalayan peaks from east to west.

From Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga in the east to Annapurna in the west, you get to view almost the whole of Nepal Himalaya in its entirety. If you want a real Himalayan trekking experience, but have very little time to spare then you should certainly be heading to Pikey Peak.

Relatively new and less crowded, the trail to Pikey Peak takes you from dense forests and Rai and Sherpa villages to scrubland and alpine landscape.

Part of the route on this Pikey Peak Trek itinerary connects the historic Jiri to EBC trail taken by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on their expedition to Mount Everest.

Pikey Peak Trek Route

Pikey Peak Trek starts from Dhap Bazaar, which can be reached by taking a scenic drive from Kathmandu. The trek from Dhap to Jhapre is filled with inspiring views of Numbur Himal and Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain.

Walk past tiny villages with traditional stone houses while enjoying sublime views of the mountains. The trail goes through a dense rhododendron forest that looks magical in spring, with the red, white, and pink blooms. After leaving the forest behind you reach Pikey Peak Base camp.

If the sky is clear, you can continue your hike to the Pikey Peak summit or else hike the next morning at sunrise. The summit at 4065m is the highest elevation of your Pikey Peak Trek. Getting to the top of the summit will reward you with glorious views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Makalu, Lhotse, and many other peaks.

Your return trek takes you to the villages of Junbesi and Phaplu. There are ancient Buddhist monasteries, including Thuptenchoeling Monastery, that you can visit en route. At Phaplu you end your trek and return to Kathmandu by vehicle.

Pikey Peak Trek Difficulty

Graded easy to moderate, both experienced as well as first-time trekkers can do this Pikey Peak Trek. As the highest elevation, you will reach is the Pikey Peak summit at 4065m, you need to be in good physical condition.

If you can walk for long hours and can climb stairs without any difficulty, you will be alright. No technical climbing is involved.

The maximum time spent walking on the trail is 8 hours and a minimum of 4 hours. On average, you walk for around 5 hours daily.
