Upper Mustang Trekking Permit

Upper Mustang Trek falls on the restricted area and requires Restricted Area Permit along with Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit. If you are only doing Upper Mustang trek you do not need TIMS card as Restricted Area Permit is enough to give detail of the trekker in case of any emergency or problem. Every non-Nepali needs the permit to trek in Upper Mustang.

Documents required for Upper Mustang trek permit

1. Your passport must have a validity of 6 months or more
2. You will need a passport and current visa of Nepal to get the permits
3. Three Passport size photographs

Conditions to get Upper Mustang trek permit

You will have to fulfill these conditions to trek in Upper Mustang:

1. You will need to get a restricted area permit for Upper Mustang Trek from a trekking company registered in Nepal with a USD bank account.
2. Taking a guide for the Upper Mustang Trek is mandatory and a minimum of two people will be required to get the Upper Mustang Trek Permit.

Upper Mustang Trek permit is issued by the Nepal immigration office located in Maitighar, Kathmandu. Since you need to do Upper Mustang trek with a trekking company of Nepal your company will arrange all the required permits for the trek on your behalf.

Solo trek in prohibited in Upper Mustang

You cannot do solo trekking in the restricted region of Upper Mustang. Also, you need to be trekking in a group of at least two trekkers and a guide.

An individual cannot get Upper Mustang Trek Permit and it’s mandatory to trek with a Nepalese trekking company in Upper Mustang. Moreover, you need to go trekking in a group of a minimum of two trekkers beside your guide.
