Jaljala Hill Trek is one of the unique treks in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is a newly opened trek and arguably one of the underrated treks in Nepal. It takes you to the lush forest of Jaljala that is home to more than a hundred species of birds and wildlife like wild boar, musk dear, leopard, and others.

Jaljala Hill is perched in Nepal’s Rolpa district that boasts prehistoric and quaint villages, where you will discover the laid-back lifestyle of local people. Rolpa district falls under the least-developed district of Nepal, but it is naturally rich and has the charms to attract tourists. And this could be the reason why Jaljala Hill Trek is gaining popularity recently.

The Rolpa district, in the mid-western part of Nepal, is popular for being the district that holds political history-it has remained the cradle of the Maoist Revolution for a decade. Rolpa district served as the origin point of the civil war by Maoist in Nepal’s history.

The Jaljala Hill trek route passes through verdant rhododendron forests, green meadow, picturesque village, and commands stunning views of mountains like Mt. Sisne, Mt. Putha, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and surrounding peaks. Rolpa district also houses three temples: Kailu Baraha, Baju Baraha, and Sahadey Barah.

The area is inhabited mainly by Magar people, and thus, you will learn about the unique culture of Magar people. Observe the lifestyle of different ethnic people, and indulge in their enticing way of life. Note: the areas untouched by modernization and retains old-village lifestyle.

Jaljala Hill Trek Route

On the first day of the trek, you will drive to Bhalubang from Kathmandu. The drive offers amazing landscapes of terraced farmlands and green hills dotted with small villages. From Bhalubang, you will drive for 4 hours to Sulichaur. After early morning breakfast, you will hit the trail to Jelbang from Sulichaur. The trail gradually ascends and encompasses few descents before reaching Jelbang.

You will trek for about 5 hours to reach Bagtare from Jelbang. Continue your journey through the beautiful trail. It is an easy uphill and downhill. The trail passes through picturesque villages flanked on the beautiful landscape.

On the 5th day, you will reach the final destination: Jaljala. En route, enjoy dramatic landscapes, hills, and mountain vista. Jaljala is a wetland and blessed with water resources. It offers a magnificent view of Sisne Himal, Dhaulagiri, and surrounding peaks.

The next day is allocated for acclimatization. You will enjoy a rewarding sight trip to Bhama cave. There are Kailu Baraha, Sahadev Baraha, and Bajyu Baraha in Jaljala. You can pay a visit and offer prayers. Besides, you can walk around to explore the area.

Furthermore, your journey continues to Thabang. And it takes four hours to get there. The route is considered moderate and offers some fantastic views. You will spend two nights here. The next day, you will explore the area. You will embark on a short tour to Dhakpa and Ghamchin.

Uwa will be your next destination. The trail further continues to Phuliban, from where you will drive to Sulichaur. Your trek ends today. And within the next two days, you will be in Kathmandu. From Sulichaur, you will drive back to Balubang and finally, Kathmandu.

Jaljala Hill Trek Difficulty

Jaljala trek is an easy trek that takes you to the remote area of Nepal. Anyone with no prior high altitude trekking experience can embark on this trek to Nepal’s mid-western part.

The best time to visit Jaljala Hill is during spring and autumn- colorful wild blossoms and greenery garner the landscape.

The highest elevation of this trek is 3160m at Jaljala. On average, you will have to walk for 5-6 hours, and on a challenging day, you must walk for 7-8 hours.
